With a keen eye for artistic manifestations, Murilo Mendes was actively involved in the cultural scene of his time, and left a collection of books and visual arts – some offered to him and others acquired due to his admiration. The Murilo Mendes Art Museum’s collection mirrors the poet, evidencing his affective relations, his reflections on writing, as well as his activity as an art critic. The collection of books and visual arts translates the poet’s ability to perceive the world around him, a trait that identifies him as possessing an eye for art.
In addition to an extensive list of national and international plastic arts, MAMM also houses an archive of the poet Murilo Mendes’s correspondence with family members and intellectuals, as well as personal documents, photographs and articles related to his poetic production. The archive also constitutes a documentary collection of the holders of the libraries that integrate a project of preservation of the literary and cultural memory of the city.
