The collection of the Murilo Mendes Art Museum mirrors the poet, evidencing his affective relations, his reflections on writing, as well as his practice as an art critic. With a keen eye for the artistic manifestations, Murilo participated actively in the culture of his time leaving a collection of works, some offered to him and others acquired due to his admiration. The poet’s visual arts collection, transferred to the UFJF in 1994, is the biggest international art collection to enter the country since the donations of Assis Chateaubriand and Pietro Maria Bardi, being considered, therefore, the largest international collection of modern art in the State of Minas Gerais. The collection reflects the poet’s ability to perceive the world around him, an attribute that identifies him as possessing an eye for art.
